Waterpik Water Flosser (3 Best Choices) No More Excuses!

Waterpik Waterflosser (3 Best Choices)

Cleaning Between Your Teeth Just Got Easier!

You hate to floss, I get it. Most people do. Who wants to stick their hands inside of their mouths anyway? Science now proves that water flossing is twice as effective as string floss. Wohoo!

When it comes to preventing cavities, gum disease and bad breath, you already know how important it is to clean the spaces between your teeth. You need an effective product that does the job in the most convenient and efficient manner.

I will describe the Waterpik Water Flosser and provide you with the 3 best choices. As a dental hygienist, I will inform you of the models and features you need to consider when making the best purchase.

What Is a Waterpik?

A Waterpik is a brand of oral irrigator that produces a wide range of water flossers. Water flossers are used to remove plaque, biofilm and food debris by directing a forced spray of water between your teeth and along your gumline.

The Waterpik is the most widely known and popular brand of water flosser. It is accepted by the ADA (American Dental Association) and is the first in its class to have this honor. The ADA only awards these products with a seal of acceptance if it is proven to be safe and effective at removing plaque and preventing and reducing gingivitis (inflammation of the gums). You can learn more about the ADA seal of acceptance for Waterpik water flossers.
Oral irrigators like the Waterpik create a pulsating action.

This is a compression and decompression type of action that gets into the spaces between your teeth and gums. This pulsating action reaches deep into these spaces up to 6mm where traditional floss only reaches 2-3mm.

A Waterpik will produce a hydraulic force with 1,200 pulsations per minute which forces out the plaque. This is a superior to flossing as floss can’t effectively reach these areas. Learn more about how a Waterpik works here from Wikipedia.

People Do Not Enjoy Flossing

Clinical studies show that flossing helps clean between your teeth. Flossing is an essential part of taking care of your teeth and gums by preventing cavities, gum disease and bad breath. However, only half of people floss daily and about one in every five people report not flossing at all.

Flossing requires skill to be effective and most people do not feel they have the dexterity to do it properly. As a dental hygienist I hear my patients complain all day long that they “don’t like to floss!”.Waterpik Water Flosser (3 Best Choices)

Using an oral irrigator requires less manual dexterity. It only takes a minute to clean your whole entire mouth.

All you need is water beyond your initial investment and it is appropriate for people of any age. With supervision children as young as 6 can easily use a Waterpik. Research shows that water flossing is a better option than traditional flossing.

Waterpik Gives a Better Option

An oral irrigator reaches areas floss cannot. These areas include periodontal pockets (pockets around your teeth and gums) from gum disease, areas around braces, under bridges and around implants to name a few.

The flow of water gently and effectively removes plaque and food debris better than floss. The Waterpik is 51% more effective at reducing inflammation of the gums (gingivitis). It is twice as effective as floss at reducing bleeding gums and 29% more effective at removing plaque.

For those who have braces, the Waterpik provides three times the reduction of plaque vs string floss and a manual brush. Keeping braces clean is super challenging and this product is highly recommended by orthodontists.

Lots of Styles to Choose From

On the market there are many products to choose from but the Waterpik brand of oral irrigators is the most recommended by dentists and hygienists. Waterpik water flossers have a long history of durable and reliable products.

9 out of 10 dental professionals recommend the water flosser from Waterpik over any other water flosser brand. Waterpik has more research than any other brand and is known for its quality and performance. This company has been the leader in the industry since 1962 and their products are recognized for their award-winning technology and designs.

Waterpik has many styles to choose from depending on your needs. I will describe the best version of a counter top model. If you have a place on your countertop, this model with a reservoir may be right for you. This can become a permanent fixture on your bathroom sink.

If you prefer, there is a model that combines the brushing and flossing procedure in one easy to use product. This allows for one product versus two separate units.
If portability is your main concern, Waterpik has a superior version of a cordless model that does not require electricity.

Let’s look at the highest rated countertop water flosser first….

Next, I will describe the best combination product of an electric toothbrush and a water flosser….

Waterpik Sonic-Fusion

Some styles include an electric toothbrush which is very beneficial. The option including an electric toothbrush gives you a superior clean. Electric toothbrushes clean better by giving you more effective brush strokes.

You will get 30,000 to 50,000 brush strokes per minute (compared to the average 500 brush strokes per minute with a manual version) in addition to the water flossing benefit.

Electric toothbrush versions also give you a built in timer for 2 minutes. This allows you to brush for a full two minutes, the recommended time it takes to be effective.
Waterpik Sonic-Fusion combines the proven effectiveness of the Waterpik Water Flosser with the power of an advanced sonic toothbrush.
Learn about the effectiveness of sonic waves for teeth cleansing here from Wikipedia.

The head of the toothbrush contains a built-in water flosser tip. This allows a pulsating water spray to be used in combination with the sonic vibration of the toothbrush. The Waterpik Sonic-Fusion is a device that provides both brushing and water flossing at the same time.

There are settings up to 10 to allow the water pressure to be customized for comfort and the intensity of the clean desired. The device comes with a timer to allow for a full 2 minutes of brushing. This timer has a built in pacer to notify when each 30 seconds has passed.

A reservoir holds the water and can be used with an antimicrobial mouthwash if desired and the Waterpik Sonic-Fusion comes with two patented water flossing brush heads Waterpik explains that the sonic toothbrush cleans the tooth surfaces while the water flosser jet focuses on the spaces between the teeth and below the gumline.

The product features three modes of action: brush, floss and brush + floss. Research shows it removes 99.9% of plaque from treated areas. It is up to 50% more effective than regular floss for improving gum health and up to twice as effective as traditional brushing and flossing.

This product is ideal for the person who wants to save time and who also wants to improve their oral health. The Waterpik Sonic-Fusion is also ideal for anyone with crowns, bridges or implants. Read a full review of this product.

The pulsating water spray along with the sonic toothbrush effectively reaches these notoriously hard to reach areas. You will be protecting the investment you have made in your dental work by using this unique product. Orthodontic patients will truly benefit from this innovative technology as plaque and bacteria cannot hide from the combination of the sonic wave plus pulsating water flossing spray.

People who suffer from decay (cavities) or periodontal disease (gum disease) will find this product greatly improves oral health by reducing and eliminating bacteria from the in between areas of the teeth and under the gumline. These areas harbor the majority of the bacteria in the mouth and are easily accessed by the Waterpik Sonic-Fusion.

Save Time…Brush and Floss Simultaneously!

Now you can use a one step oral care regimen for your oral health. No longer do you have to commit to the separate and additional step of flossing. It can now be done within the same 2 minutes that it takes to use your toothbrush.

This product also comes with a limited 3-year warranty and is endorsed with the ADA seal of acceptance. I invite you to try this highly recommended product for yourself. Click here to go to Amazon and get yours.

This model from Waterpik is a great option if you are looking for an oral irrigator that is portable. The Waterpik Cordless Freedom is a water flosser that can be used in small spaces as it does not require much space.

Whoa I think I might buy one of these Waterpiks. I hate flossing and sometimes skip it because of my loathing of it. Reading through your review makes it sound so much simpler and easier to keep my teeth clean. My whole life I’ve battled flossing and it’s great annoyance. Looks like the first waterpik (Aquarius) is on sale right now for the next few hours. Thanks for reviewing the waterpiks, it’s helpful for me.

What a great product. I didn’t know of it so I am very pleased to discover how effective it is! It is so easy to use. This is what I need because I do not like to floss. It can be gross. Is doing it once a day enough? Thank you.

    1. Michelle

      fityourselfbarre,

Absolutely!  Once a day is all you need to effectively remove the plaque and food debris from between your teeth and below the gumline  However, it is perfectly safe to use as often as you feel the need.  Some people who have gaps or more spaces between their teeth may feel the need to use the Waterpik water flosser after every meal.  The best time to use this product is before bed.  At night, the bacteria rapidly multiply due to the warm, dark moist environment inside our mouths.  Removing the debris from hard to reach areas including between the teeth will reduce issues with gum disease and cavities.

      Best of luck,

      Michelle

    Hi Michelle

Thank you for reviewing water flossers as they are something that many people are not aware of. I have tried using the old fashioned string flossers and do not like them.  They often get caught between my teeth. You panic as you try to remove them. I always think that water is much more gentle, as water cannot get stuck in between the teeth. As long as the flow rate is large enough and the pressure is not too great. The water flossers you review look great.  I prefer a portable one as you can bring it with you on a holiday.

    Thanks,

    Antonio

    1. Michelle

      Antonio,

The string flossers you are referring to can be very frustrating to use.  They do tend to get caught in tight spaces and tend to fray and shred.  This leaves pieces of floss behind.  The Waterpik water flosser will gently and effectively remove food, plaque and debris.  You have several settings to choose from.  You will want to use the lowest setting that gives you the desired results.  Aim the water spray at a 90 degree angle between the teeth and the water spray will effectively flush out and clean underneath the gumline and between the teeth.

      Thanks for sharing,

      Michelle

  5. Robert Trevor

As an ordinary person, I am quite happy to brush my teeth and leave it at that. Flossing is not an option that I feel the need for my teeth to feel clean.

Do I need, a high pressure hose spraying my teeth with water to remove plaque? I suppose if my dentist thinks it is a good idea, then I better go along with it especially if it prevents me from having to have my teeth filled.

Apparently there are several types, of the Waterpiks available:

1/ there is the Waterpik Aquarius flosser which has a mode to remove plaque, and a mode to massage the gums.

2/ there is the Waterpik Sonic Fusion which has an electric toothbrush that uses sonic waves in the teeth cleaning, as well as a mode for the Waterpik to work with up to 10 variations, to suit the plaque removal.

3/ There is the, Waterpik Cordless Freedom Water Flosser, which runs on batteries, and is ideal for traveling,

For my money, I would choose, the Waterpik Sonic Fusion as the one best suited to my needs.

    1. Michelle

      Robert,

Waterpik is a very reputable company and science has proven the effectiveness of their products.  They do a nice job of offering an option to fit everyone’s needs.  You will not be disappointed in your investment and I am sure your dental professional will see the improvement in your home care and plaque control.

I have been researching about this and you have fully answered my question. An oral irrigator reaches areas floss cannot. Besides, floss has been impacting my health. I have been suffering from inflammation of the gums (gingivitis), and this oral irrigator seems to be the solution. Thank you very much! I’ll now do a well informed purchase.

    1. Michelle
